Name of Board: Star Wars: Vox Populi
Link to Board: swvoxpopuli.yuku.com/
Activity: About 50 posts/day.
Difficulty: For Everyone
Rating: R (Strong language, violence, drug abuse, sexual content in a permission-only forum)
Types of Characters/Creatures allowed: Characters native to the Star Wars universe are permitted. With the exception of Yuuzhan Vong, anything you find on Wookieepedia is fair game here.
Time of where the RP is set in: 24 ABY (After the Battle of Yavin).
Plot/Story: After the defeat of the Empire, the New Republic is the dominant interplanetary government in the Star Wars galaxy. The Jedi have retreated from government after their earlier hard lesson with the Old Republic: in order to maintain their autonomy, they must not tie themselves too strongly to any government. The New Republic and the Jedi are still often close allies, working together to achieve mutual ideals even if the Jedi can hold only informal political influence.
After the defeat of the Empire, the Sith fell into disfavor. Their cold war with the Jedi leaves them mistrusted, their former association with the Galactic Empire leaves them constantly and carefully watched for treason by the New Republic. Their existence is not itself a crime, but the wounds from past brutality have not yet healed over.
The Jedi and the Sith each have Academies for their prospective recruits, the Jedi on Kashyyyk and the Sith on Chandrila. Each is aware of the other, and while each is prepared and perhaps even eager for open conflict after two decades of strain... neither is yet willing to land the first blow. Yet.
Further complicating the political scene are civilians, criminals, a Mandalorian nation united once again, and would-be Imperials who have lost their patron but not their passion.
Other notes: SWVP is an informal freeform board; we are focused on collaborative storytelling and character development above all else. However, in the service of this ideal, we do have guidelines in place for how powerful characters can be at certain stages in their development. A Jedi must be a Padawan before she is a Knight or a Master, and a Sith is an apprentice before advancing. Non-Force users are also given the means to distinguish themselves as they develop, based on recommendation from other members of the community.
There is no approval process, but we do ask that players post a bio. Peer-review is informal and unofficial, but not uncommon.
Most importantly, SWVP was created to draw out a certain kind of community. We named ourselves "the voice of the people," because at SWVP are people who demand that all voices be heard, that all members have a place to be themselves and tell their stories without fear that conflicts will turn into drama, or that well-meaning administrators will turn into tyrants. Here we share a goal, and respect above all else is the law of the land, especially when we disagree. We built a progressive and accepting community based on these needs, and if you share them... why don't you stop by? We'd love to see you around.
