Welcome to the Guide to the Jedi Profile Format. I'm in charge of either accepting or critiquing your character's profile. There often tends to be quite a bit of confusion that comes along when creating your character's bio, so I'm going to walk you through it step-by-step, offering any advice I can along the way. This is meant only for Jedi Applications. Do not use my advice for any other character you may be creating.
Full Name: Choose a name that matches your character's race. For example, a Twi'lek would never be named "Dave". Look on wookieepedia.com for details on the naming system. Advice on naming your character will also be hinted at in other categories.
Race: This ia very important aspect of your character, as it effects your character's history, appearance, birthplace, name, and even alignment. Humans have a different way of naming themselves than Twi'leks do, and each race has its own fighting style. For example, Wookies and Ewoks wouldn't be very good Jedi, would they? They don't have the necessary skills. They would, however, be great warriors. Do some research before just choosing a random name!
Age: Age is not a thing to be taken lightly, even if you choose a simple race like a Human. Age can impact how well your character fights; if your character is still a child, they most likely won't be amazing fighters, and if they're too old, they won't be what they used to be. Some races live longer than others, so the aging system is completely different. Again, research this thoroughly before choosing.
Gender: Gender isn't as iimportant as race, name, and age, but it does affect your character. In general, females are quicker and thinner, while males are typically stronger and move more slowly. This is not always the case, though.
Height and Weight: Height, along with weight, is influenced by gender, age, and race. If you don't know what average 40 year old males weigh, there's no shame in looking it up. We only accept height in feet and inches (5'6").
Bithplace: Birthplace is influenced by race, mostly. Humans tend to live everywhere, for whatever their reasons, but some races choose to live only in a specific area, unless they have very good reasons. Do your research!
Rank: Before choosing, there are a few facts to consider:
Younglings: Specifically within the Jedi Order during the last years of the Republic, youngling was an unofficial title, referring to a Force-sensitive child undergoing the early stages of Jedi training—otherwise known as a Jedi Initiate. At a very young age, they were removed from their home and assigned to a clan for training, according to their abilities. (Wookieepedia.com)
On this site, a youngling must be from ages 5 to 12. By 13, they would either be chosen as a Padawan or be sent to work in the Service Corps.
Jedi Padawans: A Padawan, Padawan learner, or Jedi Apprentice in Basic, was a child, or in some cases an adult, who began serious training under a Jedi Knight or a Jedi Master, chosen by the Knight or Master him/herself from the ranks of the younglings. Padawans followed and helped their Masters everywhere, unless seen unfit by the master, from simple tasks to dangerous missions, so that they learned from experience and personal guidance. Padawans that belonged to species that grew hair on their heads typically grew a braid signifying their apprentice status, although there were a few exceptions among species, even some humans. When a Padawan passed the 'trials', he or she was elevated to knighthood, and his or her braid was cut off during the knighting ceremony. There was no fixed age when this happens: Padawans could even be adults, but for a Human, it usually occurred in the Padawan's early- or mid-twenties. If a youngling was not chosen by any Jedi Knight to be his or her Padawan by thirteen years of age, the youngling was placed into another, lesser role in the Jedi Service Corps—a tradition abandoned by Luke Skywalker when he created the New Jedi Order. (Wookieepedia.com)
On this site, a Padawan may be no younger than 12 years of age. Before creating a Padawan, be sure to schedule a Master, either out of character, or by starting roleplay as a youngling.
Jedi Knights: Jedi Knight was a rank of Jedi in the Jedi Order, following the title of Padawan and preceding that of Jedi Master. A Padawan would become a Jedi Knight once he or she had passed the Jedi Trials. In theory, it could take a Padawan many years of training under another Jedi Knight or a Jedi Master to achieve this rank (example: Obi-Wan Kenobi spent twelve years under Qui-Gon Jinn before he became a Knight, Anakin Skywalker had trained for almost the same time as his master before he achieved the rank). Knights were the backbone to the Jedi Order, being the majority. Jedi who held this rank were assigned most of the standard Jedi missions. Because most of the Jedi were of the rank of Knights, the Jedi Order as a whole were often called Jedi Knights. It should be noted as well that many Knights were addressed as "Master," at least by their own apprentices. Once a Padawan had passed the Jedi Trials, he was knighted by the Jedi Council and commissioned as an active member of the Jedi Order, free to participate in intergalactic peace-keeping, judicial, and diplomatic affairs. Rather than immediately beginning to participate in galactic affairs, a Jedi Knight may also choose to train a new Padawan. (Wookieepedia.com)
On this site, a Jedi Knight must be at least 22 years of age. Your Jedi Knight does not have to have an apprentice, but it is an option. Typically, there are three classes which fall under the rank of Jedi Knight:
Jedi Guardian - The name given to a Jedi whose skills and talents lay in battle, a light side mirror of the Sith Warrior.
Jedi Consular - Like all Jedi, skilled in battle, but rarely entered combat, preferring to study the mysteries of the Force.
Jedi Sentinel - A subsect of the Jedi Order that sought a balance between the two extremes of the Jedi, the Jedi Consulars and the Jedi Guardians.
Jedi Master: Jedi Master was the second highest rank a Jedi could obtain, and a traditional requirement for becoming part of the Jedi Council, the main interface between the Jedi and the government of the Republic. It was reserved for those who have shown exceptional devotion and skill in the Force. The titles of Sith Lord or Sith Master were on par with Jedi Master. (Wookieepedia.com)
On this site, Master's must be at least 30 years of age, still young for a Master. If your Jedi Master is very young, it will have to be thoroughly explained in the boi, and we may not even accept it. It would be wise to PM a staff member before creating a young Master. Also, Master's don't usually have Padawans, but, in some cases, they can. Usually one becomes a Master when their Padawan advances to the rank of Jedi Knight.
High Council Member: The Jedi High Council consists of ten Jedi Masters who choose to dedicate their life to the order. If you wish to make a Jedi Master High Council Member, please state so in your bio.
Prestige Classes:
Prestige Classes are specialized ranks for Jedi specializing in one particular area. Each Class has different requirements but all of them require one to be at least a Knight before training can commence.
Jedi Ace:
A Jedi Ace is a Jedi who specializesin starfighter combat. Jedi Aces combine their piloting skills with their mastery of the Force, being able to perform almost impossible and daring maneuvers to down their enemies or avoid being downed themselves. Some Jedi Aces would use the Force not only to enhance their own flying but also to influence the mind of their opponents, causing them to be confused or to lose concentration. By using their instincts putting trust in the Force often at times is all they need to be led to victory.
Requirements - Jedi Knight
Jedi Weapons Master:
Jedi Weapons Master is a title given to a Jedi considered to be among the greatest fighters of the Order. Jedi Weapons Masters are much more trained and proficient in battle and the use of a lightsaber than in philosophy or in Force skills.
Requirements - Jedi Knight, Mastery of at least three Lightsaber Forms
Jedi Investigator:
Jedi Investigators are appointed by the Jedi Council. Their primary objectives are to uncover hidden and obscure threats to the galaxy, such as powerful criminal syndicates, corruption and conspiracy against the Republic and other phantom menaces. They operate in secrecy, making the Council the only ones who know about their missions.
Requirements - Jedi Knight
Jedi Shadow
A Jedi Shadow is a Jedi investigator whose duty is to seek out and destroy any sign of the dark side of the Force.
Requirements - Jedi Master
Jedi Watchman
Jedi Watchman is the title given to certain Jedi who are tasked to oversee a particular system or sector. When a Force-sensitive child was discovered and picked for training by the Jedi, it was usually by that planet's Watchman. They have the ability to cloak their physical selves with the Force, granting them invisibility. Jedi Watchmen are the eyes and ears of the Jedi Council, granting them greater flexibility in formulating the strategy of the Jedi Order.
Requirements - Jedi Master
Jedi Healer
Jedi healers are specialized Jedi that aimed to use the Force to heal instead of (or in addition to) using it in combat.
Requirements - Jedi Knight
In times of war Jedi would often be called upon to serve in the military, often leading both ground and naval forces either as the strategist or in the heat of battle personally.
Jedi Commander:
Jedi Commander is the lowest Jedi rank in the Galactic Republic. Every Padawan was given the rank of Jedi Commander regardless of whether or not they wished to assume military duties.
Jedi General:
Jedi General is the mid-way Jedi rank in the Galactic Republic, given to all Jedi Knights. Jedi Generals are usually in command of their own fleet while the Jedi Commanders under them lead the Battalions.
Senior Jedi General:
Senior Jedi General is the second highest rank a Jedi can achieve in the Galactic Republic, given to all Jedi Masters. Ranking immediately below the twelve High Jedi Generals, Senior Jedi Generals command Sector Armies within the Galactic Republic.
High Jedi General:
High Jedi General is the highest rank a Jedi can achieve in the Galactic Republic. As only members of the Jedi Council can receive such a rank there’s only a maximum of twelve at any given time. High Jedi Generals hold command over System Armies within the Republic.
Lightsaber: A Jedi's lightsaber is unique to the Jedi who weilds it. Padawans and Jedi Knights often create a lightsaber similar to their Master's as a sign of respect, so keep this in mind if your character currently has a Master. Your character's lightsaber could be single-hilted, double-bladed or single-bladed. They could also dual-weild lightsabers. Usually, Jedi only carry one, single-hilted, single-bladed lightsaber, but your character could be an exception.
Color: Typically blue, green, or yellow, but we will allow almost any color, as long as it has been mentioned previously in the books. If you lightsaber if a very strange color, explain it in your history. We will not allow any black or white lightsabers!
Lightsaber Skills and Forms:
All attributes are ranked from 0-5, 5 being mastered, and 0 meaning that your character has not even learned the basics. Please be reasonable, for no Jedi is skilled in every lightsaber form, and most focus on 1 or 2 only.
Shii-Cho: All Jedi incorporate Shii-Cho into their fighting style, as it is the first style learned by a Jedi. No other lightsaber form may be as high as Shii-Cho.
Makashi: Makashi is a means of lightsaber to lightsaber combat, best used when fighting against a fellow Force-user. It was described as being very elegant, powerful, and requiring extreme precision, allowing the user to attack and defend with minimal effort, while his opponents tired themselves out
Soresu: A form that requires maintaining a constant shield of deflective strokes by making short, quick sweeps, close to the body, leaving the Jedi less exposed to ranged fire. Form III was the most defensive of the seven forms.
Ataru: An aggressive style, Ataru is fast-paced and effective against single opponents, though weaker in prolonged combat and confined spaces. Ataru is characterized by Force-assisted acrobatics, both for attack and defense, and fast, powerful strikes. Notable users of this combat form included Yoda and Qui-Gon Jinn.
Shien / Djem So: Shien, considered the classical Form V, is more adept at blocking blaster bolts, whereas Djem So, developed later, is designed for lightsaber combat. Both Shien and Djem So were designed to use the opponent's attack against them, as evidenced by Shien's focus on returning blaster bolts to their origin.
Niman: Form VI attempted to balance all elements of lightsaber combat, combining the techniques from Forms that came before into a less intensely demanding combat style.
Juyo: The incomplete Form VII, Juyo is a very demanding skill. On this site, you cannot be a master of Juyo. To learn Juyo, you must have mastered Shii-Cho and at least one other lightsaber form.
Jar'Kai: was a subform of lightsaber forms Ataru and Niman, and was one of the oldest forms of lightsaber combat, a dual blade wielding technique. The usage of the Jar'Kai form actually predated the invention of the lightsaber.
Double-bladed Lightsaber Combat: The Jedi Council traditionally frowned on use of the blade, believing a traditional lightsaber was enough, and considering the double-bladed lightsaber little more than a weapon designed to kill more effectively, while the Jedi developed the lightsaber to defend. Though there was no rule forbidding its use, the Jedi discouraged their students from attempting to create or use a double-bladed lightsaber.
Mounted Lightsaber Combat: was practiced when Jedi would have to use their lightsabers in combat while riding a mount such as a tauntaun, or mounted on a mechanical means of transportation, like a swoop bike.
Force Sensitive Abilities and Practices:
All attributes are ranked from 1-10, 10 being absolute understanding, 1 being a basic grasp of the concepts. Please be reasonable when deciding your skill ranks, as no jedi is great at every skill set.
Here is how I will grade your stats:
I will not accept any 10's, so don't even try it. And even a Jedi Master may not have a 9. Try and judge your character fairly. If you have a very talented Jedi Padawan character, who is 13 years old, and he's extremely good at using Force Manipulation, his skill level would probably be a 4 or 5. If you have a very talented Jedi Master character, and he's extremely good at using Force Manipulation, his skill level would most likely be an 8. See the difference?
Force Manipulation: Force push, force pull, force grip, telekenisis... Anything that manipulates your opponent.
Force Senses Telepathy, sensing danger, ect.
Protection: Force shiels of any kind, force repulse, ect.
Healing: The ability to heal yourself and others by manipulating the Force.
Force Powers - Destruction: Force lightening, anything that phsyically harms your opponent.
Attributes:
All attributes are ranked from 1-10, 10 being perfect.
Please be realistic when selecting stats, as no one person is good at everything. Keep your characters interesting and real by giving them weakness.
Physical Strength: This affects how strong your Jedi's lightsaber strokes are. Some races are stronger than others.
Intelligence: This affects your Jedi's knowledge of the Force, and also how they interact with others. Most Jedi Padawans would have an intelligence of 5 or 6, while Master's would be a 7 or 8. I would rank Master Yoda as a 9.
Speed: How quick and agile your character is in combat. Some races are quicker than others, and younger Jedi tend to be faster than their elders.
Leadership: This affects how your character influences others. Most Padawans wouldn't have a very high leadership, but Jedi Masters would.
Unarmed Combat: Some Jedi focus on Unarmed Combat, just in case they were to lose their lightsaber in battle. I would rank both Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi at a 6, for they both use Unarmed Combat.
Force Attunement: -10 to 10, -10 being completely evil, unswayable, 0 being neutral, and +10 being absolutely good, pure, and completely uncorruptable. Younglings must be 0. Padawans cannot be higher than a +3. To be above a +8, massive roleplaying must be done with the character.
Appearance: This is affected by Race, Gender, Age, Height, and Weight. Do your research before writing your character's appearance.
Personality: This affects how character interacts with others during roleplay. Jedi tend to be selfless beings - a trait that is taught at the temple. Your character can be rebellious, adventurous, calm, exciting, or anything else you want them to be.
History: This is where you tell us all about your character. I want to know about their birth, childhood, acceptance into the order, training as a Padawan, becoming a Knight, Jedi missions, friendships, love interests, ect. Basically, all the details.
What I WANT to see: A written outline of your character's entire life, from birth until now. I don't want you to skip any years!
What I DON'T want to see: There are no "unknowns". Your character may not know about their past, but you do. Give me all of the details, regardless. There are also no skipping ahead. I see a lot of bio's like this:
"He began his training, and ten years later became a Jedi Knight."
You skipped over half of his life just then. I want to know what happened during his training. Details are the key!
I hope his guide has been helpful. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.
