Appearance: Standing at exactly six foot and weighing one hundred seventy pounds Zephyr is surely an intimidating figure to say the least. His Dark brown chocolate hair often covering up a pair of stormy bluish-grey eyes isn’t styled often. Normally wild during most occasions but at meetings or other important events is sometimes slicked back giving Zephyr a much more ‘mature’ appearance. His clothing often reflects the current situation his him, during his time under Master Xan Zephyr preferred to wear tighter fitting tunics as he was often on the battle field.
However when he was knighted and was training Sara his clothing loosened to the more standard Jedi Attire consisting of a dark brown Jedi tunic a brown robe that was one to sizes larger than him and boots. After the Battle of Mandalore Zephyr attire changed drastically, no longer wearing Jedi robes preferring lightweight armor that provided both protection but didn’t hinder his force abilities.
Personality: Early on in his life, Zephyr was a thoughtful and intelligent individual, if not somewhat reckless in his every action and overly aggressive in combat. However despite this Zephyr was both helpful and generous toward anyone and everyone he came into contact with. Though kind he was always one that tended to carry grudges for prolonged periods of time and was extremely vengeful.
He matured throughout the years as he grew more connected to the force. His renown as a powerful force user and a prime candidate to become a Jedi Weapon Master no doubt went to his head as he developed a cockier, arrogant nature. This personality change showed itself when he stood before the Jedi Council asking permission to join part in the Republic/Sith war. Most of The Council disapproved and disallowed Zephyr from joining, saying he was far ‘aggressive’ to go to war, in fear that he would fall to the dark side.
This criticism angered Zephyr greatly and if there was anything he hated the most was being lectured and reprimanded for his actions. He grew to resent the Council for their decision but did nothing else about it, instead he continued training and going on non-war related missions. Hearing about the war only by Holo and not firsthand Zephyr grew more and more impatient with the Jedi council until he couldn’t take it anymore.
He called for an audience with the Council seeking permission to join. This time he was allowed to participate, long as he kept his feelings in check fully knowing his emotions when it came to Mandalorians.
During the apprentice of Sara Zephyr grew more passive using his mind more then his body to win a battle. He only led forces personally when it marked either the end of a campaign or to combat dark Jedi.
As Mandalore the Invincible and beyond, Zephyr didn’t really change having the same attitude as before if not a bit more sadistic and bloodthirsty due to having been around Mandalorians for the past few months.
History:
Early Childhood
Zephyr was born thirty years ago, on the desolate planet of Dantooine. Having been raised by his parents both whom where simple famers with no real interaction with the outside world Zephyr’s life could easily be described as ‘boring’ to city folk from planets like Coruscant. Force-Sensitively was not something exactly common in the Marek family as their last known Force Sensitive relative dated back several hundred years around the Jedi Civil War, however despite this Zephyr was different. Even at infancy he showed signs of the force running though him in every imaginable way.
So as a result of his family’s general ‘commonness’ Zephyr was expected to both help and eventually take over the family Farm once his Father passed away or was too old to work. However Zephyr didn’t want this, he didn’t want to farm. Like every other farm boy his age he wanted to leave the planet, become a pilot maybe and fight against the Sith Empire. It was a silly dream, a foolhardy hope; a child’s wish on Harvest day. To one day leave the planet and be someone important in the Galaxy, that was his dream. To be remembered not as a Farmer from Dantooine that did nothing his entire life then grow crops but a Hero that saved the galaxy from certain destruction.
At school Zephyr was alone, categorized as the ‘weird out of this world’ one in the group and as a result was declared a social outcast. He didn’t mind though, most of the kids didn’t have much imagination anyway at recess when the other kids where playing ‘normal’ games like kickball and tag he spent his time pretending he was a republic solider fighting against the Sith or vice versa.
At the age of six the two most important events of his life occurred, one was the raid of his family’s farm resulting in the death of both of his parents by a band of dishonored Mandalorians. And the second a mysterious figure coming from seemingly nowhere striking down the bandits saving Zephyr in the process before they could finish the boy off, after realizing the man was a Jedi a Knight at that he was immediately grateful but his gratitude quickly changed into confusion once the Knight mentioned that he’d come for him.
After explaining his potential to become a Jed several times he offered the recently orphaned boy a chance at a new start at his life. How could he refuse? It’s been his dream sense as long as he could remember to leave the planet and travel the stars and besides he has nothing left on Dantooine anyway after the raid so he accepted following his savior back to his home the Jedi Temple back on Coruscant.
Temple Life
After settling in the temple Zephyr had little time to adjust himself to the new surroundings and learn his way about the temple. Despite the large amount of children his age all experiencing the very same thing Zephyr made little move to connect with them yet alone introduce himself to anymore. He didn’t take to his studies with much enthusiasm, though he did show great interest in combat. However in classes such as philosophy Zephyr showed his real nature.
Bluntly disagreeing with many Jedi customs such as the forbid of love and the suppressing of love, he often got into trouble with his instructors and was resented by his peers in jealousy of actually knowing his parents. He spent his time in relative isolation training with his lightsaber in his free time and studying about famous tacticians and strategist such as the Jedi Revan.
He wasn’t without his flaws though; Zephyr had a strangely low amount of force power and wasn’t very attuned with the force. This was one of the key reasons for his seemingly obsession with lightsaber combat. He was an extremely gifted duelist even more so because of the general lack of the force guiding his actions.
At the age of eleven he joined the tournament that would hopefully impress the Masters enough to be taken as an apprentice. The first few rounds where a breeze for the talented boy but the last fight was the only one that mattered, the finals up against an older youngling that had far more power in the force then Zephyr had. For the first few minutes they where even both parrying and countering each others strikes fluidly, it wasn’t until Zephyrs opponent called upon the force for assistance did the tables turn. Moving twice as fast, twice as hard and easily predicting his every move Zephyr was eventually overpowered and knocked out of bounds.
But even though he lost Zephyr still impressed a Master and in his own way won. The Jedi Master was named Xan Strider a renowned Weapon Master and Senior Jedi General for the Galactic Republic. They bonded almost immediately after seeing Zephyrs already impressive skill with a lightsaber and the vast raw force power that had yet to flourish and he wanted to be there when it happened.
Apprenticeship
During the early stages of his apprentice Xan decided it was best not to actively participate in the war until Zephyr was better trained. Xan taught Zephyr many things over the course of their eleven or so years together including several different lightsaber styles though like Xan he didn’t master many but was skilled in all, even going as far as teaching him Juyo an incomplete style that’s often frowned upon by the Jedi.
As time went on and as Zephyrs power grew Xan finally decided to return back to the frontlines of the war this time with his apprentice and Jedi commander Zephyr. The pair where almost invincible when together overpowering any foe that stood in their way and demolishing any Dark Jedi that stood before them it wasn’t long before the Council assigned them an extremely dangerous mission one that could turn the tides of the steady stream of loses for the republic and renew the troops morale.
Unknown to the general populace but the Sith wasn’t the only threat to the republic during the Forty year war. The Mandalorians, natural born soldiers ready to die for their honor threatened the Republic yet again after the new coming of Mandalore the Unstoppable. Their mission was to free the captured planet of Dantooine Zephyrs home and to capture Mandalore.
Ready to get back on the field after a several month break Zephyr was also filled by anger coming for the gruesome memory of his family’s farm being raided. Xan of course sensed this but instead of reprimanding him to have better control over his emotions he instead allowed it to grow. Deciding it was time the Weapon Master taught his apprentice Juyo a highly aggressive form that when used by the weak minded can cause one to fall to the dark side but when filled with emotions can make the form unstoppable. Using the memory as strength Zephyr became highly efficient when it came to the incomplete form almost to the point of perfecting his own style but there was always something missing.
Having no more time to practice both Xan and Zephyr left to Dantooine along with their fleet, during the course of the month long Campaign Zephyr proved himself to be quite the strategist using tactics gathered from the countless books he studied in his earlier days it wasn’t long before Xan give his apprentice full power over the strategic advances of the campaign while he carried them out.
Star fighting not something Zephyr liked to do but was good at it. While he did indeed like ships, bikes and anything of the fast nature he absolutely despised being in them, preferring to admire their appearance then anything else. The jerky movements and often suddenly changes in direction didn’t do much for Zephyrs already weak stomach and did his best to avoid dogfights all together.
The campaign came to a closure when Mandalore himself showed on the battlefield, easily dispatching squad after squad he quickly made it clear he had no intention of coming alive. Zephyr had no choice but to watch as his mastered dueled the man alone via orbital camera from their capital ship The Starkiller. The fight eventually ended in Mandalore defeat but before he could be restrained his personal Protectors came seemingly out of no where and retrieved their fallen leader pinning down Xan with a hailstorm of blaster fire.
Despite the loosing Mandalore the campaign was won and the planet of Dantooine was once again free, once back Zephyr was knighted at the age of twenty-two and was declared a Weapon Master for the Jedi Order.
Knighthood
Zephyr never really showed much interest in training an apprentice preferring to be out on the battlefield rather then in a confined training room training a youngling. However Xan his old master who he still keeps in contact with and often the one fighting alongside at battles convinced him to reconsider. The Order however disagreed with the idea of him training anyone, while he was indeed a valuable member to the Order and one of the best duelist and strategist of their time the sheer idea of him training another was impossible.
They described him as a cocky, arrogant yet calm individual and a walker of that very fine line between the lightside and darkside even more so with his signature lightsaber form Juyo. Liking Xan over the Council thousands of times over and being as disobedient to the Order as ever, he found a loophole in their words. While they said he ‘shouldn’t’ train anyone they didn’t necessarily say he ‘couldn’t train anymore and proceeded to look for an apprentice.
A Padawan
It wasn’t until long before he met his desired apprentice, Sara Rouge a young seventeen year old human female who’s master died several months back and was visiting the Spiritual Healer ever sense. The two started off rough Zephyr trying his best to understand the young female but only managed to make it worse.
She’d been staying alone inside her Masters old quarters still devastated by her unexpected death. Deciding it was best if she had a change of scenery he took (dragged) her onboard the ship that was still under his command even after all those years The Starkiller. And though she didn’t show it in her face she was indeed grateful for the opportunity to leave.
After relations with the two where finally in speaking terms Zephyr was ready to train he new Padawan. He found out that her old master had already taught her much and the main thing left to do was guide her as she matured. Favoring lightsaber combat more then anything else (despite his force power having finally ‘flourished’) while Sara preferred mastery over the force. They balanced each other out, instead of Xan and his time together and having to literately hack and slash everything to stay alive Zephyr was doing the slashing while Sara simply blew everything away.
Over their course together they learned many things from each other Zephyr learned several things taught by her old master about the force while he helped her perfect her desired form Soresu.
Sacrifice?
Five years later Sara was knighted joining the ranks as a Jedi Counselor making her master Zephyr and Xan proud. Immediately after the knighting Zephyr returned to the fronts of the war, while most Jedi Generals forced on the Sith Threat Zephyr on the other hand had a personal vendetta against the Mandalorians and as a result focused on them.
One of the last battles Zephyr participated in was a space battle above Mandalore the Mandalorians homeland and Headquarters. Republic forces under his command where vastly outnumbered and any reinforcements would come too late. The tactician quickly realized that the only way he would achieve victory was if launched a full scale attack on the planets surface. There was one problem however; the Mandalorians positioned their fleet in a double line formation ensuring that nothing broke though towards the planet.
Zephyr had only two options, either retreat and wait till reinforcements arrived or pressed the attack using his capitol ship The Starkiller as a battling ram against the Mandalorian blockade. Deciding retreat wasn’t an option he ordered all staff to evacuate the ship. With aid of the force Zephyr simply meditated on the now barren bridge as the massive ship increased in speed spiraling towards the blockade. Mandalorian turbolasers tore the ship apart and it was only by strength of will did the ship stay intact long enough for it to impact with the blockade. The impact rendered Zephyr unconscious and when he awoke he found himself on the Mandalorian planet Mandalore.
Mandalore the Invincible
The initial crash destroyed much of the surrounding area he was in and no doubt alerted the Mandalorians more specifically Mandalore of his presence. After gaining some distance away from the crash site Zephyr entered a clearing, sitting down he decided to meditate before the battle that would surely come.
Within a matter of minutes dozens of swoop bikes circled the Jedi Knight including their leader himself Mandalore the Unstoppable. Forming a circle around the pair the Mandalorians watched their leader explain their admiration toward the Weapon Master and his old master. It would be a one on one duel to the death, Mandalore commented on how Zephyrs lightsabers will be a great addition to his collection.
After readying himself the battle commenced. Zephyr quickly realized why his master showed so much difficulty when he faced against Mandalore before it was if he had force senses also. The armored man managed to destroy all but one of his lightsabers forcing Zephyr to use Jyuo.
Forcing images of his parent’s murder fueled his resolve to defeat his foe striking repeatedly blindly before successfully performing sai cha (the act of decapitation) on Mandalore.
The Mandalorians where stunned, their leader Mandalore the ‘Unstoppable’ lay dead in front of them a Jedi Knight had defeated him. They weren’t sure what to do if their greatest warrior and leader couldn’t defeat him what chance would they have? So instead they did they only thing they could do. They each dropped to one knee and presented Zephyr with Mandalore helmet proclaiming him as the new Mandalore.
The battle that raged above between Mandolorian forces and the recently arrived Republic reinforcements under Sara Rouge’s command ceased. Under their new leader Mandalore the Invincible drove back the Republic forces. Months later the war ended the Mandalorians officially declaring themselves neutral. Several days later Zephyr gave Mandalore's helmet away to a promising new Mandalorian to lead saying where he was going they could not follow.
The Grey Side
The Republic officially declared Zephyr Marek K.I.A after the battle of Mandalore saying he sacrificed his life in order to by the Republic more time to regroup. Only a select few know of Zephyrs new title as Mandalore the Invincible, including Kane Rider a High Council Member he had the privilege of meting when training Sara and Vorr Kaeel the recent Grand Maser of the Jedi Order.
Zephyr describes himself as a Grey Jedi, no longer restricted by the beliefs of the light but not blinded by the taint of darkness. His not exactly sure what to expect in the later years but if anything he’d be prepared for it.
True Sith
After Zephyr heard about the existence of the True Sith he was immediately called upon by Kane to search for any trace of them.
He often reports back to the Jedi Master on his status though hasn't found anything worth presenting to the Order yet.
There is no death, there is the Force.
