Appearance: Vo has semi-short, straight, black hair, almond-shaped, gray eyes, and a relatively thin frame. His skin is slightly tan due to his love of nature and the outdoors. He is not a heavily muscled person as when it comes to fighting he prefers to rely on his speed and mind. Vo still keeps the very lean shape one would see in a marathon runner or a Drum Corps marcher. He is very clean cut with no facial hair. His hair extends about half an inch over his ears and is constantly kept at this length, which Vo believes is the most useful length being long enough where cutting it helps greatly with a disguise but short enough to avoid being grabbed in a fight. He wears robes often seen among Jedi with a brown cloak over a white robe-like shirt and white pants. He of course had the usual belt that Jedi are famous for wearing and brown boots. Underneath his robe he wears a loose, dark blue shirt that is visible at the V of his robes.
Personality: Vo has control over his emotions for the most part but has succumb to rage several time. He is the cool-headed calculating type. Preferring to watch and learn rather than making up his own way of doing something. Vo has often looked to nature when confronted with a problem watching the birds and other animals to gain a solution. He is still quite aggressive and a formidable opponent. He sees speed as power. His preferred way of fighting is an endless onslaught of quick, sharp attacks until the enemy is worn down or leaves an opening.
Vo is a staunch humanitarian and cares deeply about the life of all things. Vo prefers to take on someone else's pain rather than let them deal with it themselves. Vo often goes out of his way to help others even when it is against orders. Vo was always a little rebellious. While he understands the value of organization, he will do what he thinks is right when it comes down to it (which has troubled the Jedi Council).
While from the above you may get the impression that Vo is always a serious, silent type of person but he is not. When he is relaxing around other Jedi he is often loud and quite boisterous. He likes to push his limits and test how far he can go in all that he does. Vo is a bit of a joker and thinks that making others happy is the greatest gift he can give in the world.
History:
Vo was born on the planet of Kuat in the Kuat System of the Kuat Sector (Kuati overload ). Vo was born into a very wealthy family who were one of the co-owners of Tekshar Falls as well as having some influence in the Kuat Drive Yards being one of the lesser known families of the Ten who founded the Drive Yards. While being lesser known and far less powerful than the Kuat family, the Qin family was still by far one of the most powerful families on the planet. They had always been involved in the power struggle that the upper class families were plagued with but for the most part stayed behind the scenes, never moving up or down in the world. Because of his family Vo never knew pain or strife. He was sheltered and protected. He was pampered as a baby until he was three given all he ever wanted and having servants waiting on him hand and foot, not that the baby ever asked for much.
At age four he showed that he had great intelligence with his his natural ability in mathematics and engineering. He rarely got to put the latter skill to the test however since he never needed to create anything although the former skill was taught to him by private tutors. In his short time on Kuat, Vo often asked to be taken to the Gardens of Tralala. He would often try to escape his servants, who were ordered to watch him by his parents, and simply lay in the gardens. He had a love for animals in particular however, dreblins being his favorite. He spent much of him time talking to them, expecting no response but remaining interested in the "conversation". It was his strong connection to the Force that allowed Vo to be so at one with nature. His strength was no secret. Mumblings of his strange behaviors had spread and a Jedi recognized the signs and alerted the council. They that he was to be brought to the Temple post haste. Him parents were slightly reluctant to give him up, being their only male heir, but they were assured Vo had great potential and would attain heights they could never have dreamed he would. With that, his parents relinquished him to the Jedi way.
Vo was enthusiastic about what was soon to come as he found life mundane and repetitive in his lavish home. He had an itch for something different. Vo did not realize the what he was about to have to go through. Vo became friends with many people around the temple with his quirky view of the things around him. He liked to point out the unobvious and study the fine details of things. He built up a vast store of trivia which he unleashed at his whim. But it wasn't all easy for Vo. As a youngling everything went smoothly. They watched his talent at the saber and his strength with the Force grow. He had talent, but still, it seemed he wasn't giving all of his effort and needed to be pushed harder.
At age eleven he tried to prove his worth in a tournament. He was defeated. It was the first time he had tasted defeat and it was a strange feeling. His hair was relatively long at that point and his opponent managed to defeat him when she singed his hair causing Vo to let go of his saber with one hand to attend to the "attack". She easily knocked the saber out of his hand and soon after he was on the ground. He immediately demanded a rematch which she accepted. The second match, Vo went after her using his greater strength to his advantage, but she was quicker, more nimble. He knew he was stronger and hitting harder, their skills levels were about equal. Yet she was always ready to block him, even if she had to redirect some of the force to keep firm footing. He went in for a final swing, hoping to finally break her guard, and she dodged, grabbed a fistful of hair and pulled backwards, and threw off his balance so badly that in the next second he had no weapon and was back on the floor where she had put him before. Vo admitted defeat and searched for the fatal flaw in his fighting style. He came to the conclusion that speed wins battles. And with that he adjusted his fighting style and three months later a Jedi Master personally requested him.
Vo felt it a great honor, knowing he must have something in him that earned him his master. But in all truth it was the Council's belief that he needed a tough, unorthodox master to train him to unleash his potential and they contacted Master Sanda Letul and told her to return to the temple and observe the tournament and it's participents very closely. Their intentions had always been for Sanda to find Vo. Vo was age twelve when he became padawan under Sanda and while he was no prodigy, he improved at a rapid pace. It seemed the firm backbone that Sanda provided was exactly what Vo needed. Sanda was a short, thin woman who also was a firm believer in speed equaling victory. She was a master of jar-kai passing onto Vo the belief that two weapons doubled the speed at which you could deliver attacks. She also passed on the advantages of a shoto to Vo as well. It's small size made it easier to control and slip through defenses.
As Vo learned he started experimenting with his fighting styles. He asked what the team up of a shoto and a lightsaber would result in. Sanda simply told him to find out himself. And so Vo did. He tried to incorporate his Shii-Cho moves with the twin weapons. It led to much frustration on his part. It was then, at the age of fourteen that Vo began to branch out into his master's preferred style of Ataru. Learning Ataru was draining work but Vo was persistent. And Vo did well with Ataru and wanted to train in it exclusively, but Sanda would not allow him to. She knew he would be better benefited beginning Niman, the other side of Jar-Kai.
Vo became close friends with a female on Caamas, where Sanda had brought him to further learn and observe Jedi morals. She was not Jedi but she was born and raised on Caamas and knew much about the Jedi way. Vo feared he was falling for her and for once, he felt he had no control. Vo never told Sanda about any of this. She knew of their friendship and nothing else. This could've very well spelled disaster for Vo, as it would for Anakin Skywalker years later, but it didn't. Nor was it Vo who saved himself. The girl saw what was happening, and while she loved him back, she knew it had to end. So, to save Vo, she left Caamas to marry a suitor who she had genuine affection for although they were not romantic feelings. She refused to even speak with Vo after that knowing if he did not forget her she could cost him his life one day. Vo got angry when she never answered him after that, but it was for the better. He meditated and calmed down. He knew not of the sacrifice she made to protect Vo but he understood that whatever had happened was for the best. He was heartbroken for some time but he told all he merely missed his close friend. Sanda never learned of what transpired but during those four years on Caamas, Vo had grown a lot.
When they left, Vo was twenty-one. Vo was to begin his trials soon but first they were sent on a mission to put an end to some particularly skilled nobles who were using lightfoils. Vo had been on missions before but this one was the first one that would actually be truly dangerous. The nobles had been using the lightfoils for duels and such for some time now. They never caused trouble. One noble was known for being particularly skilled. But a stranger arrived one day. The nobles were not seen for some time but when they came back they were worse than before. Sure they had been a bit of a nuisance whenever their duels entered public places and their ability to pay off any officials into letting them free anytime they did anything kept them coming back but it was a minor thing. Now they were no longer fighting among each other, but simply going around searching for someone to prove their strength against, always killing their opponents. This was something that their money could not stop retaliation from and law enforcement had tried to stop them. But suddenly their skills had improved ten-fold. They were actually repelling blaster-fire and killing officers. So Vo and Sanda were now headed to stop these miscreants.
When they arrived, it was a simple matter to track down the nobles. They weren't hiding. So Sanda and Vo simply planned to get in a take away their lightfoils. A simple enough tasks although of course they expected resistance. Vo and Sanda slipped into the noble's home's undetected and began their search to make sure there wasn't a stash of foils that they could take up after they met the Jedi. They did a very thorough search and found none. Satisfied they set off to the mansion of a summer home the noble's were known to be staying at. Sanda and Vo slipped in through a window. It was surprisingly poorly guarded, but, then again, as Jedi the scale of good and bad defenses were different. As soon as they entered Sanda felt a disturbance in the Force. She could sense there were at least two utilizing the dark side of the Force in the building. One was quite strong, the other much weaker. They walled into the hallway and were suddenly surrounded on all sides by nobles with foils pointed straight at the pair of Jedi as well as a hooded man who was laughing quietly. He reached under his cloak and pulled out a lightsaber. It wasn't a foil, this was a true saber. He activated it and showed it's bright red blade. It was a Dark Jedi. A simple mission suddenly became a lot more dangerous.
Without words the fight was on. Sanda and the Dark Jedi sprung at each other leaving about a dozen foil armed nobles for Vo. Vo force pushed two against the wall with such force he knocked them out but had to draw his saber and shoto in the next second to parry several attacks coming at him at once. The foils were devilishly quick. Vo quickly flipped over the nobles around him and sliced off the weapon hands of two of them. Their weapons may have been faster but Vo had the force. He easily pushed and knocked two more out with a force push. Six down, six to go. The noble's weren't bad though. They turned and were back on Vo who was very happy with his dual weapons now as there was no way he could've fended them off with one. He took some hits though. The foils weren't as powerful as a saber but they were faster and Vo had some burns on his shoulders and legs. He was already stumbling. Vo removed several more hands, allowing three more nobles to join their friends in clutching the stump of a hand they now had. He kicked down another and removed a foot. He wasn't going to be getting up soon. Vo suddenly found himself one against one. The other had backed off and he was confident he could defeat this single noble. It was a quick fight. Vo force pushed him against the wall and removed his hand. He turned around to help Sanda, who was having difficulty with the Dark Jedi, but, he found the last noble standing there with two foils in his hands.
Vo sensed the dark side in this one. He must've been a force-sensitive that the Jedi never found and the dark jedi must've trained him and his friends in fighting with the foils. The noble attacked and was far more skilled than the other nobles. Perhaps it was because of the crowd that the noble hadn't been able to unleash his full force, but whatever happened Vo knew he could lose the fight. They fought for several minutes. The Noble even had some ability to take advantage of force powered athletics to match the tactics Vo was using, such as jumping against walls to gain upper ground. It was a tough fight and Vo took several more hits. Vo took a direct stab wound into his left arm but by taking that wound Vo was able to remove both the hands of the noble. Vo fell against a wall and tried to regain his senses. The handless noble was either very brave or stupid because he kept at it. He kicked out Vo's legs and Vo, still dizzy, tumbled. Vo dropped his weapons as he fell and he rolled as he fell and flipped forward to get some distance. Then he did what he had to, using the force he lit his saber and cut the noble down at the waist. Vo had defeated a dozen nobles and quickly got his mind back. He ran up and picked up his shoto to join his master in the fight.
As soon as he jumped in he saw the Dark Jedi's eyes start to roam. He was searching for an exit. They needed to end the fight fast. Vo overcame his pain and sped up his attacks. Suddenly the Dark Jedi kicked Vo the the fork of his legs and knocked him down. He pushed back Sanda and threw his saber at her. His weapon hit her in the collarbone and Vo knew it was a fatal wound. In anger he charged at the Dark Jedi and tackled him. The dark Jedi fell and raised his hands as if to show he had no weapons. Vo almost killed him, but Sanda yelled for him to stop, it was not the Jedi way to kill an unarmed opponent. Still, Vo continued his slash but merely removed those raised hands. Perhaps he had an affinity for removing hands, but it was the best way for him to insure the Dark Jedi would not cause anymore trouble. The Dark Jedi yelled in pain but was still clever and tripped Vo. Vo tumbled and landed on his stomach. The Dark Jedi fleed. Vo knew he could not catch him and went to Sanda. She was dying and knew it. She told him he would make a good Knight but he still needed more training. Vo promised he would avenge her but Sanda told him it was not the Jedi way and no matter how hard he must avoid turning to the dark side. With those final words she passed.
Vo suddenly felt a flow of pain rushing into him. He needed medical attention. Adrenaline and the Force had subsided him for the time being but now he was feeling to pain of his wounds. Vo spent a week in a hospital but as soon as they said he could leave, despite being advised to rest, Vo took off to contact the council.
After giving his report, the Council deemed the Dark Jedi dangerous enough do dispatch another master, master Stee Kree, to attempt to capture him. The risk of the Dark Jedi getting cybernetic replacements was too great of a possibility, and combined with the fact that he had been skilled enough to match Master Sanda meant he was far too dangerous. When Stee Kree arrived he agreed to finish Vo's training and became Vo's master.
Stee was quite different from Sanda. He told Vo that defense was the key to victory. He showed him the basics of Soresu, and while Vo learned it well, he never wholeheartedly believed that defense was the key, sticking by his and his former master's philosophy of speed whenever they were actually engaged in a fight. Stee helped Vo get over Sanda's death without declaring a vendetta on the Dark Jedi who killed her. Vo came to accept Stee as his new master and together they traveled for a year and a half searching for the Dark Jedi. After that year was up the Council contacted them and told them to return. The Dark Jedi was in hiding and there was no way they could catch him. So the pair returned. As they flew back Stee told Vo that he had truly learned patience, and how to see and accept, but not necessarily believe all views during their year. And because of this he was ready to be a Knight. Vo nodded and hoped that wherever Sanda was, she knew he was finally a Knight.
After the Knighthood ceremony, Vo felt like he had a lot more freedom. And in truth he did. He was twenty-three and he did something he'd been wanting to do for some time now. Vo returned to Kuat. He returned to his family to show how far he'd come. They were proud of him and that he was welcome to stay. Vo declined and went to the Gardens of Tralala. There he meditated to become closer to the Force. The gardens were special to him and he never felt more at one with the Force. He allowed it to flow through him and he had a vision. He wasn't sure what it was but he sensed emptiness. He saw himself battling someone that seemed to not even have the Force within him. This disturbed Vo and he went to speak to the council in person about this.
When Vo returned, he reported his vision. The council took it very seriously and discussed it but they could not imagine someone without some form of the Force in them. Vo left them to ponder and meditate on it. As he left he thought about what he had seen. It seemed impossible but had the Force ever lied? Vo put it in the back of his mind. He needed to begin training. If he was going to fight these "things" one day he needed to be ready.
Vo began working on Ataru and Niman again. His odd preference of weapon actually helped his with making these styles his own. He worked with various Jedi Masters to perfect his skills. This would go on until the present. But aside from Lightsaber training, Vo watched the tournaments every chance he could. He was looking to take on a padawan of his own. But he never saw anyone who really just gave him that spark. Vo was waiting for someone special to train. But it was the same every time. They had talent, skill, and were all good younglings but none ever gave Vo what he wanted.
At age twenty-five, Vo returned to Caamas, hearing that his old friend had returned. He finally reconciled with her. His romantic feelings had faded and no matter what they did, they could not reach the level of closeness they once had. Vo left the planet several months, and while they had reconciled, they would never be as they were many years ago. Vo felt somewhat sad about this but realized, as a Jedi, he could not afford to be as close as they had been. It was a bittersweet realization but their falling apart had been something Vo thought about quite a lot. Now that it was finally put to rest, Vo could truly focus on being a Jedi Knight.
Vo is now twenty-six. He is still searching for a padawan. The latest reports in seem to confirm his earlier premonition. Vo and the council do not know what exactly is going on. Vo has meditated several hours each day to try and figure it out. He has come to no conclusion but continues training for his destined fight.
