Appearance: Moneo is a figure of fairly small stature for his race, though though small enough to be considered unusually so. His frame is a thin one, and even under several thick layers of clothing it is apparent that his physique is not one built for combat or used to the demands of heavy physical labor. In the rare cases in which his features are visible, Moneo's face is thin and angular, drawn and worn from the labors of his art. It makes him appear older than he truly is, though his features are not unhandsome, though the seemingly eternal grim expression does nothing to lighten things. His hair is a dark brown, almost black, and is kept cropped short.
However, Moneo is often kept under the traditional attire worn by the Sorcerers of Tund. Aside from his pale grey eyes and the small radius of crimson-hued skin surrounding it, Moneo's face is completely obscured by layers of dark grey cloth bandages. There is little doubt as to the rest of his body being covered with the same material, though his figure is enshrouded by heavy robes. The robes are of a similar dark coloration, and while they are lightly embroidered with ritualistic designs, are quite plain overall.
Personality: In terms of personality, Moneo cannot help but often find himself branded as something of a curious figure, both among his own kind and to the various peoples scattered throughout the galaxy. To his own people, he is an anomaly in that he is one of the few Sorcerers whose insatiable curiosity of the Force (or Unity, as they call it) has caused the man to actually leave the cloistered seclusion of Tund to pursue studies in the galaxy that the Order has all but shunned for millennia.
To those unfamiliar with Tund and the Sith outcasts that have all but become a myth, Moneo is nothing more than an odd pilgrim or scholar from a religion and/or planet beyond their knowledge. He is a quiet figure, whose reticent nature and almost curiously archaic mannerisms render him as little more than a curiosity or a slightly amusing back-planet pilgrim. Some people see little difference in the pair. Those with training in the Force or with a fairly hefty knowledge in the more obscure Force-using sects would be able to identify Moneo for what he is immediately, however.
And yet Moneo seems to go completely against the general preconception in regards to the Sith in that he harbors no ambitions to enslave the Galaxy, kill all the Jedi, or whatever insane megalomaniac achievements that the Sith lords of the time seem to be enjoying or pursuing. Yes, his views on morality are admittedly skewed due to cultural heritage and the unfortunate fact that most Sorcerers eventually wind up insane with their pursuits of unraveling the Unity's mysteries.
Yet Moneo is no warrior. He is simply, as he states, a scholar. His curiosity can lend strongly to that argument, and the fact that he does possess an oddly refreshing bluntly honest method of delivering what few words he does have to offer. Unfortunately, it is no lie to state that he is rather oblivious to the common decencies and mannerisms in polite society, a fact that can potentially lead him into no small amount of trouble. Thankfully, his is a cool head, though he is not one to shy away from using his formidable "sorcery" should the need arise.
History: The Sorcerers of Tund. An outcast sect of the pure-blooded Sith's priest caste, these reclusive force-users reside on the lush planet of Tund. Due to their fearsome heritage and Karnak Tetsu's reign of terror some two hundred years past, the order is one spoken of in fearful whispers throughout the galaxy, and the half-mythical tales of their powers is enough to scare most any child into good behavior. It is unsurprising, then, that the Jedi order has attempted to keep a close eye on the Sith descendants, though the sorcerers seem more than happy enough to keep quietly to themselves.
It was to these sorcerers that Moneo was born, the younger to a set of twins. He and his brother Feyd were initially viewed with a curious suspicion, as twins were a rare event and it brought about questions to the community if they were some part of an elaborate array of signs and portents. Were they the symbol for the Tleilax family to prosper? Or were they an omen of doom? Eventually their father, Pardot, and mother, Odrae, decided that the twins were to be destined for some form of greatness... under proper guidance, of course.
The Tleilax were a proud family, and traditions of excellence were to be rigidly upheld in the household. And so the first stage of Moneo's life set in. It was not a happy early childhood, as Odrae enforced a harsh system of rules and disciplines on them as she moved to teach the pair all that she knew of the Force, better known to them as the Unity. Had they not been born as twins, Moneo and Feyd might have had an easier time of things. Might have. Odrae was a stringent woman, and what she imposed on the children would most likely have been considered abusive anywhere else in the galaxy. The twins, however, bore it well. How else could they? To them, the rigid lifestyle was natural. Smiles and cuddly love and tenderness? That was a-near alien concept to the Sorcerers of Tund and their ilk to begin with.
Yet while Moneo and Feyd lived under the sharp constant gaze of their mother, their father Pardot was all but a stranger to them. He was powerful and well-respected as a sorcerer, and so often had business beyond the family's drab estate. What it was Moneo never much bothered to learn, assuming it was simply his vigorous explorations into the Unity. When Moneo was nine, Pardot fell victim to an affliction all too common to the Sorcerers- madness. To delve so deeply and often into the Unity as the sorcerers did was something that often came with a hefty price. As such, it is unsurprising that Moneo always regarded his father with a certain wariness.
Even though the two were born identical twins, Moneo and Feyd were both extremely different in terms of temperament. Feyd was one content to live well within the boundaries presented to him, always accepting the advice and information offered to him without complaint or thought. Moneo, on the other hand, was the child who questioned the whys and hows of everything and anything, dissatisfied until he found out exactly how things worked and why they worked that way. It was no to one's surprise that he was the one who constantly sought out things to occupy his mind, be it to answer his questions or to find something new to ponder over. Both children were exasperating in their own manner, but Odrae found herself favoring Moneo's incessant ambitious curiosity. She was no gentler to him by any means, but on the rare occasion where he had exceeded her high standards or they found themselves with little to do, she would take them to the Sorcerer's great temple and monastery to visit the archives of knowledge. Such a treat became the young Moneo's greatest aspirations.
The village in which the Tleilax family resided in was a small one, so there were few children Moneo's age to play with. It wasn't like he minded; he had his brother, whom he got along with exceptionally well despite their differences in mindset. Their mother's rigid lifestyle and self-imposed mandate of excellency left the pair with little free time to begin with, and even on the free day, Moneo was more interested in taking the trip down to the archives as opposed to visiting and playing with children he barely knew.
At the age of seven, the twins were shipped off to the temple to continue with their education beyond what Odrae could teach. Such education was compulsory, and Moneo soon found himself part of a small gaggle of acolytes, under the tutelage of Korba, an ancient sorcerer by the Sith's standards. He too imposed strict lessons and disciplines on the young students, though Moneo found the old man's methods to be much less harsh than their mother's. He settled in well, and was even quick enough to form bonds of friendship with two of the other students. Kailea was a girl from the next village over, and was Korba's granddaughter. Bijaz was from Moneo's own village, and was quick to assert himself as the leader of the trio. On occasion Feyd would trail along, and the little lot would do what any inquisitive lot of children would do; namely, investigate into matters that Korba would violently and dramatically claim was beyond their mental capacity and understanding. It landed them in trouble often enough, but Korba was one to impose such limits to see which ones were the ambitious children and thus, more worthy of his attention and respect.
Moneo excelled under Korba's tutelage, absorbing and seeking out new information even more quickly than he had as a young child toddling after his mother and barraging her with questions. Such skill did not go unnoticed, and after only three years, he was drawn from the class to go under the private study of the eminent sorceress Iru. Unfortunately, this brought about some bitter feelings with Bijaz, and Moneo found himself spending less and less time with his friends until the point where they never saw one another at all.
As Feyd wallowed in mediocrity, Moneo served as Iru's shadow and servant, fulfilling whatever menial deeds needed doing as he, in turn, watched work and learned from observation. It was with her that his habit of constantly questioning everything was curtailed, the curiosity instead being funneled into acts of memorizing it to sort over and ask at another, more appropriate time if he were unable to reach such conclusions himself. The pair worked well together, and after nearly nine years of serving under her, Moneo was allowed to undergo the rituals and ceremonies to ascertain his status as a full-fledged Sorcerer of Tund.
However, being a member of a terribly mysterious organization of Force mystics didn't turn out as exciting as one would think it to be. For his first year after attaining the title of Sorcerer, Moneo shadowed the various sorcerers who taught the younglings, with the Order hoping that Moneo would himself someday be a great teacher. However, Moneo proved to be rather inept at providing such guidance, and after a year he was removed from the station.
A year was spent in personal studies as he made his own inquiries and explorations into the Unity. It was an uneventful year in all, save for the fact that he oddly found himself reunited with his old playmate Kailea. The pair were quick to bond with one another again, and within the year the pair found themselves wed.
Their marriage was not bound to be a happy one, however. The Order deemed Moneo to be a suitable worker for the archives, recording and keeping track of the vast array of holocrons, papers, and various other media that held the histories and studies of the Sorcerers of Tund. It was a task with long hours and few visitors, so Moneo set out to do what he loved as a kid- wander through the archives and read. For six years he devoured the information recorded in the archives, often growing forgetful of the hours and spending more time there than at home with his wife. Kailea grew dissatisfied with Moneo's inattentiveness, and sought to have their marriage annulled, but to no avail.
Yet while Kailea grew unhappy with Moneo, Moneo grew unhappy with nearly everything else. After years of doing nothing but reading information, devising his own questions and pursuits of the Unity on his own time, he was growing bored with the stagnant lifestyle he now found himself in. Why spend his whole life sheltered away in a massive room, on a lonely planet, when there was a whole galaxy of information to investigate and learn from? Why? There was their species' inherent distrust of the other races, true, but he failed to see how that should stop knowledge.
And so, at a very irritable 27 years of age Moneo petitioned the Order to allow him to venture away from Tund, out into the galaxy beyond. Surely there were many aspects of the Unity out there that he could uncover? For months he battled those who would quash his idea, until at last the leaders relented. Now free to explore the galaxy beyond his home planet, Moneo and his wife bid one another a simple farewell. Off-planet travel was exceedingly rare, but there were still several space-worthy ships scattered here and there, and he was quick to leave with only a few scant possessions. Once off-planet, it was no great effort to find himself a spaceport and sell his ship for a decent amount of credits, believing that traveling amongst the "others" would help expand his knowledge.
Of course, the question remains... now what?
The Force shall free me.
